At the age of 76, Dr. T N Subramaniam, a well-known mathematician of Indian origin who made significant contributions to technology, passed away in Michigan.

After moving to the US in 1979, Dr. Subramaniam was highly respected in academic circles in both India and the US, where he left a lasting legacy of creative mathematical theories and models.

The founding of Route One for General Motors, a business that transformed auto financing and GPS systems for GM cars, was a high point of his remarkable career.

As the chief architect of General Motors' server in Troy, Michigan, Dr. Subramaniam was instrumental in establishing the technological terrain and customer service benchmarks of the automotive sector.

When then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi visited the US, she was impressed by his extraordinary accomplishments and gave him a private audience. She also praised his creative efforts to elevate his native country.
