April 24 :
According to Vice President Kamala Harris, the Biden administration is making "historic steps" to solve the problem of a lack of certified nursing facility staff. Federally financed nursing homes house more than a million Americans, with the vast majority of those facilities suffering from chronic understaffing. Harris stated at a Wisconsin event on April 22 that she and President Biden are "taking historic action" to address the staffing crisis and safeguard care workers and their families.

Nationally, nursing homes get funding from the federal government to house around 1.2 million people. And thus — and that accounts for over 80% of the nursing facilities in the United States. Okay? A large number of nursing facilities receive funding from the federal government.

Harris made the statement while addressing the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), a union with around 2 million diverse members in healthcare, public sector, and property services. He claimed that most nursing homes that receive government funding are woefully understaffed.

We believe that seventy-five percent of such nursing homes do not have enough staff members. Plus, you need to know how that impacts the nursing home resident. According to her, this could suggest that nobody is around to assist them in getting out of bed.

It could suggest that nobody is around to catch them if they fall. As a result, residents will receive less medical treatment overall, as the facility's caretakers are already overworked and unable to provide the quality of care that residents expect, according to the vice president.

"It creates a more isolating environment for everyone residing in those homes, including our elderly and those with disabilities, who value and benefit from the companionship of these caretakers," she included.

Harris, during the occasion, unveiled new federal initiatives to combat nursing home staffing shortages and assist in raising wages for home health care workers. Helping hands ensure the security, respect, and autonomy of those we care about. Their care for us is a work of God, and she emphasised that we should return the favour.
