Balwinder Singh Girn honored at Annual Lunar New Year Celebration

Mr. Balwinder Singh Girn a senior Project Manager with Northern Trust Corporation with leadership roles in Asian American Business Resource Council and the National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP) received the 2019 Exemplary Community Service Award from the Asian American Coalition of Chicago (AACC) at its 36th. annual Lunar New Year Celebration at Hyatt Regency O'Hare Rosemont on Saturday February 23, 2019 with the theme “One World. One Vision.†The dinner banquet this year was hosted by the Filipino American community of Chicago, chaired by Aurora Austriaco, a law firm owner who in 2012 became the first Asian American President of Chicago Bar Association.
The celebrations brought together more than 1,000 guests including Asian American community leaders, dignitaries, elected officials, corporate sponsors and the City’s movers and shakers. The AACC Lunar New Year Gala is the largest event of its kind in the Midwest.
Balwinder Singh Girn, an electrical engineer, mathematician and Information Technology Project Management professional , is currently on the Board of Advisors and a past President of Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago, a fascinating blend of Science, technology, arts and culture.
He is a Senior Project Manager with Northern Trust Corporation, a wealth and asset management company in Chicago.
Balwinder Girn is involved with Asian American Business Resource Council at Northern Trust and National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP), Project Management Institute (PMI) Chicagoland chapter, along with many volunteer activities in Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago, where he is a past president and currently on Board of Advisors.
Balwinder Singh Girn was born in Punjab, India and moved to the US in 1978 with his family. He went to high school in Huntington, Indiana and then for higher education at Purdue University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics.
In 1995, Balwinder moved to Chicagoland when he started working with Accenture LLP, management consulting firm.
Since joining Northern Trust in 2007, Balwinder has been dedicating his considerable time to Asian American Business Resource Council (ALBRC), where he held a number of positions such as president and an advisor, membership recruiting, mentoring new comers, and organizing events. He also represents Northern Trust by planning and participating in the Asian American Group Leadership forum during the Asian American Heritage Month. Balwinder also represents Northern Trust at the NAAAP annual leadership conferences, which were held in Denver, Los Angeles, New York and Dallas.
Balwinder is also the first PMI Ambassador for Northern Trust Corporation, which requires him to promote project, program and portfolio management at work through panel discussions and knowledge sharing sessions.
At Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago, Balwinder contributed and participated in almost every activity since 2007 including Asian American Coalition of Chicago events and Thanksgiving Day Parade in Chicago. He is currently on the Board of Advisors, he was promoted to be the president in 2011 after holding a number of positions such as Vice President, Executive Secretary, Finance Secretary, Sports Director, and Intercommunity Director.
Balwinder is happily married to Harminderpal Kaur Girn and they have two sons Amrit Singh Girn and Gurpreet Singh Girn.
