Rahul Gandhi's nomination declared valid in Amethi

Lucknow, April 22
In a major relief to Congress President Rahul Gandhi, the Election Commission has declared as valid his nomination from the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

An independent candidate on Saturday had raised objections over Gandhi's nominations, alleging discrepancies over citizenship and educational qualifications in his affidavit.

Ravi Prakash, lawyer for the complainant Dhruv Raj, claimed that he had documents that indicated that Gandhi was a British national.

Taking note of the complaint, BJP spokesman G.V.L. Narsimha also asked the Congress President to come clean on the issue.

Yogendra Misra, the Amethi district Congress President, on Monday, said that the allegations were countered legally after which the nomination of Gandhi was declared valid.

Rahul regrets Rafale remarks, accepts 'court never said' it

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday expressed regret to the Supreme Court over his remarks on the apex court's Rafale order, and accepted that the "court never said these words" as he had earlier attributed his "Chowkidar Chor Hai" remarks to the top court.

Gandhi was responding to BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi's petition against him. He said his political rhetoric against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Rafale deal was made in the heat of the moment at a poll campaign.

He, however, contends that he and his party's stand is "Chowkidar Chor hai".
