NYC Dance Week, the annual 10-day dance festival, is proud to present FUNKAR - The Artist Within, a unique performance experience where 10 emerging dance companies/groups/troupes are given up to 10 minutes to showcase their new work to an audience that rates and comments on their work. Dance professionals also provide each company feedback on their choreography and performance. Presented as part of NYC Dance Week, taking place June 13-22, 2019, Funkar will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 7:30 pm at Dixon Place, located at 161A Chrystie Street, New York, NY 10002. Pooja Uberoi, a professional dancer and dance teacher from Mumbai, India, founded Funkar - as part of NYC10 Dance Initiative, the sister project of NYC Dance Week under the nonprofit, Tendu Inc. Her vision was to help discover and support emerging dance companies from all over the world and bring them to NYC to expand their audiences. Pooja is trying to highlight the diversity of dance in New York City through Funkar.

TENDU Inc is a 501c(3) organization exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, with a mission to promote diversity of dance in the City of New York. Pooja Uberoi, Founder of Funkar - a NYC10 initiative
Pooja is a Producer for NYC Dance Week, the sister arts project of NYC10. In 2019, she founded Funkar in order to give emerging dance companies an opportunity to get feedback from dance professionals. She has more than 13 years of experience as a dancer and teacher in jazz schools, the Bollywood industry in Mumbai, India and New York City. She was a Board member and head of a national dance school in India before moving to NYC. Pooja has performed her choreographies and taught at the prestigious CBS This Morning, Dance USA Dance and in schools in India, New York City, California, Canada and Puerto Rico, Israel and Mexico. Pooja also owns the dance company in New York, IkIGAI - USA. She is the Brand Ambassador for Dance USA Dance, NYC and Hotstar, USA. She is also a consultant for a music school and runs an international artist management company called Artists East West.
