Philip Mathew, 34, charged in the murder of his wife Merin Joy, 26 in Florida

CORAL SPRINGS, Florida. â€“ Police have arrested Philip Mathew, 34, of Wixon, Michigan and charged him in the murder of his wife Merin Joy, 26.

She was fatally stabbed Tuesday morning in the parking lot of Broward Health Coral Springs, local10news reported.

Coral Springs police said they responded to the scene just after 7:30 Tuesday morning.

Witnesses said the woman was stabbed several times, and that the person responsible had taken off.

A Local 10 News crew was at the scene as detectives scoured the area for evidence, eventually towing away a Toyota SUV.

Police believe the stabbing was part of a domestic dispute between Joy and the suspect.  Police said they found him at a hotel in Coral Springs. He was transported to a nearby hospital after he was found with a self-inflicted knife wound.

Mathew is being charged with first degree murder.
