Ankur Vaidya Endorses Mahesh Bhagia For Edison Mayor

Edison, NJ – Ankur Vaidya, who currently serves as Chairman of the Federation of Indian Associations of NY/NJ/CT today endorsed Democrat Party endorsed Edison mayoral candidate Mahesh Bhagia. Mr. Bhagia, if elected in November, will be the first South Asian American to hold that position.


“Mahesh is the best choice for mayor. I have known Mahesh for many, many years and in addition to his qualifications, Mahesh has a demonstrated record of getting things done for residents,” said Mr. Vaidya. “I am proud to wholeheartedly endorse Mahesh Bhagia for Mayor and my request to the community is that they support him.”


Mahesh Bhagia is considered a protégé of the late Ramesh Patel, the long-time chairman of the Federation of Indian Associations and is known as a community organizer. Most recently, Mahesh Bhagia organized pop-up food pantries, and distributed PPEs to seniors, frontline healthcare workers, and first responders. He also led an effort to support local Edison businesses.


Mahesh Bhagia secured the nomination of the Edison Democratic Organization in a landslide victory, defeating his opponent 101 votes to 32 votes.


In June 2020, Mr. Vaidya was appointed FIA-NY, NJ, CT. Ankur Vaidya is the youngest member of the organization’s board of trustees and is the youngest to be chosen as its chairman.


The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) of the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut is one of the largest esteemed umbrella organizations in the Indian community. It hosts the largest annual celebration of India’s Independence in the United States. The organization is among the oldest Indian American organizations in the nation, and it is widely known for its community service projects.


Mr. Vaidya, who has an engineering and real estate background, hails from Gujarat and started as a volunteer in the organization. He has been an integral part of the FIA Executive Committee.


Mr. Vaidya’s endorsement is made in an individual capacity and is not made on behalf of any organization or group.
