Hashim Mooppan returns to Jones Day as partner in Washington

Noted jurist Hashim Mooppan has returned to the global law firm Jones Day, a fter a four year stint at Justice Department, a release from the firm said. Mooppan has rejoined the Firm's Issues & Appeals Practice, as a partner in its Washington Office.
Mooppan returns to Jones Day after serving in leadership positions within the two most significant appellate offices in the U.S. Department of Justice from 2017-2021. He was most recently Counselor to the Solicitor General and previously served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Civil Appellate. During his four-year tenure at the Justice Department, Mr. Mooppan supervised the most significant appellate litigation in which the federal government participated, with a particular focus on separation of power issues and constitutional challenges.
‘Hash is an experienced appellate litigator and legal strategist who has argued four cases in the U.S. Supreme Court and dozens more in the lower federal courts, including numerous en banc arguments in various circuit courts of appeals,’ said Traci L. Mooppan was a partner in Jones Day's Issues & Appeals Practice from 2015-2017 and an associate from 2007-2014. He was named one of Law360's Rising Stars for Appellate Law in 2015. He will work with the Firm's clients to develop legal strategies throughout the country, and will advocate in U.S. appellate courts and the U.S. Supreme Court on appeals involving complex commercial litigation and constitutional challenges.

Mooppan graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School and earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard College. He was a Law Clerk to the Hon. Antonin Scalia, Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court, and the Hon. J. Michael Luttig, Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

He is the son of noted New York urologist Dr. Unni Mooppan and Haseena Mooppan, a social activist.
