Panicker elected as a Fellow of the Mississippi Academy of Sciences

First time in the 85-year-old history of the Mississippi Academy of Sciences (MAS), the academy honored few scientists with FMAS (Fellow of Mississippi Academy of Sciences). Only those who contributed tremendously for over 30 years in the field of science and technology have been honored this year. Dr. Girish K. Panicker (Honey) became a member of MAS in 1991 and continues as its life member. 


Election to the Fellow of Mississippi Academy of Sciences is the highest honor
the Academy bestows on its members for their contributions to science and service to MAS at multitude levels. It will go in the annals in the Mississippi Academy of Sciences and be part of national academies. Up to 0.3 percent of MAS's membership may be elected to Fellow each year, placing Dr. Panicker among an elite group of scientists and engineers in the state is a unique privilege. He is the 2020 Lifetime Organic Achievement Award winner and has been honored with the ‘Bharat Gaurav’ accolade from India. An internationally renowned authority on C-Factor (cover & management) research, he is a professor and director of the Center for Conservation Research at Mississippi. He earned his B.S in agronomy (India), M. S in agronomy and Ph. D in horticultural science (USA). While serving as a director board member of
numerous organizations, he has worked twice as the MAS Chairman of the division of Agriculture. Further, Dr. Panicker is an advisor to the Indian American
International Chamber of Commerce, Washington D.C. His outstanding successes
include increasing Vitamin C levels and antioxidants in organic blueberries with advanced organic research techniques, and in collaboration with the U.S. Army scientists, producing a premier organic fertilizer that traps ammonia and prevents groundwater pollution.
Late Mrs. Pankajam Panicker and Mr. Sukumara Panicker (Thiruvanathapuram)
are Dr. Panicker’s parents. Late Sri Kozhencherry V.K. Padmanabhan’s
(Thiruvanathapuram) daughter Rani is his wife and Gem Panicker is their only
child.
