Drs. Kiran and Pallavi Patel officially open Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The opening of Orlando's newest medical school has been greatly aided by the businessman and philanthropist Dr. Kiran Patel. Dr. Pallavi Patel, a paediatrician by training who has been a major driving force behind her husband's enormous charitable endeavours, and her husband, Dr. Patel, attended the Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM) ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Asian-Indian parents gave birth to Dr. Kiran Patel in Zambia, Africa. After receiving his education in Zambia under the British Educational System, he obtained certificates from the Universities of Cambridge and London. After that, he travelled to Gujarat University in India to study medicine and completed an internship in Africa. In 1980, Dr. Patel completed his internal medicine residency in New Jersey. In 1982, he finished his fellowship in cardiology at Columbia University of New York.

The Drs. Kiran C. and Pallavi Patel Family Foundation is dedicated to improving culture, education, and health around the world. OCOM was inaugurated approximately 4.5 years after the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences were housed at the Nova Southeastern University Tampa Bay Regional Campus in Florida.
