The report described the incident as a "unfortunate accident."
The Blanco County Sheriff's Office released a report that details the terrifying sight that occurred on the evening of February 10 when Ms. Chao drove her Tesla into a pond at a family ranch in Johnson City, Texas. Friends and deputies were trying desperately to free Ms. Chao from the vehicle.
According to the investigation, Ms. Chao, 50, had supper at the ranch's guest lodge earlier that evening with some companions. The visitors started heading back to their houses or bedrooms at 11:30 p.m. According to the claim, Ms. Chao then got into her Tesla and backed into the pond.
Investigators were informed by a friend that Ms. Chao called her at 11:42 p.m. to inform her that her car had fallen into the pond and she was unable to get it out. Before the Tesla sank, Ms. Chao reportedly remarked, "she was going to die and said 'I love you,'" as the water level rose, according to the report. We spoke for around eight minutes total.
