April 18:
The Water Environment Federation (WEF), a nonprofit organisation based in Virginia that offers water quality experts throughout the world access to cutting-edge training, education, and business opportunities, presented Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi with the 2023 Public Officials Award.

The recipient of the honour is a lawmaker who has made a "documented, significant contribution in the areas of clean water legislation, public policy, government service, or another area of public prominence that resulted in improvements to the water environment."

Many local water projects were funded through the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and Krishnamoorthi was highly praised for his work and advocacy in promoting water safety. He was especially recognised for his support of the Great Lakes Restoration Act and the Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Action Act. "I would like to express my gratitude to the Water Environment Federation for the esteemed 2023 Public Officials Award and for their ongoing endeavours to enhance water quality on a global scale," spoke Rep. Krishnamoorthi.

"Saving the world's water supply has been a top priority for the World Economic Forum (WEF) since 1928, and for good reason: a healthy and safe water supply is fundamental to every well-functioning civilization. "I am excited to keep collaborating with the World Economic Forum and my congressional colleagues to fund essential improvements to the water infrastructure that supports our daily lives," he continued.

Elected or appointed public officials who have made significant and documented contributions to clean water legislation, public policy, government service, or other prominent public areas that have improved the water environment are honoured with the Public Officials Award.
