On May 5, 2024, in Takoma Park, Maryland, Washington Adventist University (WAU) bestowed Honorary Doctorates and the President’s Excellence in Gateway to Service Award upon deserving members of the community during the university’s Annual Commencement Service. The Centre for Social Change (CSC) was founded by Sajid Tarar, an American of Pakistani descent, and Indian American Jesse Singh, who have both been recognised with Honorary Doctorates for their commitment to serving the community since its inception in 1993.

Central Support Centre (CSC) is a private nonprofit in Elkridge, Maryland, that helps people of all ages who have intellectual challenges, such as autism spectrum disorder. People with developmental, physical, psychological, and emotional disabilities have a voice at the Centre, which is why they fight for the right to live independently in the community.

"I am very humbled and thankful for this honour," Singh told. He is also the Founder and Chairman of Sikhs of America, USA. Thanks to God's grace and the community's love, this is within reach. Based on this, I am more determined than ever to join forces with Washington Adventist University to help the people.

Tarar was honoured by WAU for his over 30 years of community service, As CEO of CSC, I worked to assist those with physical and intellectual disabilities, and the University recognised my achievements. It was a tremendous privilege for me to collect this remarkable award in acknowledgment of my dedication to improving the lives of the less fortunate throughout my life.

During the ceremony, WAU also presented Indian-American Elisha Pulivarti with the “President’s Excellence in Gateway to Service Award” in recognition of his 25 years of community service as president and CEO of the US-India SME Council.
The recognition of Pulivarti was made by WAU President Weymouth Spence, who said that he had shown "exemplary community service—unparalleled dedication, unmatched performance, inspirational service that goes above and beyond to the public good."
