Tragic Shooting Claims Life of Indian-American in Arkansas

The chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu, expressed his profound sadness on June 23rd over the death of Dasari Gopikrishna, an Indian man who had been shot and injured in Dallas, Arkansas. In a tweet, he expressed his profound sadness at the news of a young Dasari Gopikrishna's death from injuries sustained in a shooting event in the USA. We hope the family finds strength during this trying time; we stand behind them. In Fordyce, Arkansas, on June 21, a shooter opened fire on the Mad Butcher grocery store, where 32-year-old Gopikrishna was employed. The following day, he passed away at a hospital after suffering serious injuries. Tragically, nine people were injured and three others died in the tragedy that happened at about 11:30 in the morning. Aside from two police officers, all of the casualties were members of the general public.

A following gunfight with police injured the gunman, 44-year-old Travis Eugene Posey of New Edinburg. According to the authorities, Posey will face four counts of capital murder while he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The event occurred after Gopikrishna had just spent eight months in the US. His wife and son, who live in the Yajali area of the Karlapalem district in Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh, are his surviving relatives. When it comes time for Gopikrishna's family to return his body, the government of Andhra Pradesh has promised their cooperation. Additionally, a statement was issued by Houchens Food Group, a Kentucky-based firm that owns the Mad Butcher grocery shop in Fordyce, in response to the shooting.

The shooting event that took place at the Houchens Food Group-owned and -operated Fordyce Mad Butcher grocery store on Friday has left us all feeling incredibly grieved. We express our gratitude to the local authorities for their swift action in apprehending the suspect and securing the area," it stated. Throughout the inquiry, executives from both the company and the store have been cooperative with the police. The investigation will not be completed until the store is open again.
