July 2 :
Joe Biden, US President, spoke out against the "dangerous precedent" that the Supreme Court's decision to exempt sitting and future presidents from prosecution for official acts sets, stating that it gives the executive office, and potentially Donald Trump, the authority "to do whatever he pleases, whenever he wants to do it." The address was delivered in Washington DC on July 2.

By essentially preventing Trump from facing justice in connection with the January 6 violence, Biden claimed the court had done "a terrible disservice" to the American people.

The US Supreme Court issued its ruling on Monday (local time). The majority decision, which reads 6-3, allows Trump to claim immunity from criminal prosecution for certain actions he took as president before he left office. This will likely further delay his federal election subversion trial, which is related to his actions on January 6.

He parroted liberal Justice Sonia Sotomayor's dissenting opinion, which he agreed with, stating that the result amounts to "the President is now a king above law with fear for our democracy" and that the American people should also express their disapproval. Adding, "I dissent," Biden ended his statement.

Everyone is on an equal footing with the law. "The president of the United States, like everyone else, is subject to the law," Biden declared during his live remarks from the White House.

Biden also stated, "With today's Supreme Court decision and presidential immunity that fundamentally changed for all practical purposes, today's decision almost certainly means that there are virtually no limits on what the president can do."

Once again, Biden placed the blame on Trump for the assault on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. He argued that the American people should get answers regarding what happened that day in court before casting their ballots in November.

"And it's a dangerous precedent because the power of the office will no longer be constrained by the law, even including the Supreme Court of the United States," stated Vice President Biden.

According to Biden, the ruling by the Supreme Court weakens the rule of law in the nation.

With today's ruling, the court has persisted in its assault on numerous long-standing legal principles in our country that it began in recent years. "From destroying civil and voting rights to denying women the right to choose to this decision that threatens the rule of law in our country," he proclaimed.

Biden stressed that the people of the United States must determine if Trump is unfit to hold public office in light of his assault on January 6.

He argued that "the American people must decide whether Donald Trump makes him unfit for the highest office in the land" after his assault on democracy on January 6.

In light of Trump's newfound confidence to do as he pleases, the American people must decide, he continued, "perhaps most importantly," whether to reestablish their trust in the president.
