South Asians for Biden Transitions to South Asians for Harris and Supports VP Kamala Harris for President in 2024
South Asians for Harris Expresses Gratitude for President Biden’s Historic Presidency
With President Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris to become the Democratic Presidential nominee, South Asians for Biden has transitioned to South Asians for Harris, and offers its full support and endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States in the 2024 election.
South Asians for Biden was formed in 2020 as a grassroots organization to mobilize South Asian voters nationwide to elect President Biden and Vice President Harris, with some senior leaders of South Asians for Biden previously supporting the Vice President since her candidacies for Attorney General of California and U.S. Senator.
“As someone who has stood with Kamala Harris since she launched her presidential campaign in February 2019, and who is fortunate to call the Vice President a friend, today is truly a full circle moment for me,” said Harini Krishnan, Co-National Director of South Asians for Harris, who also was part of the senior leadership team during the formation of South Asians for Biden in 2020. “I am truly energized with the opportunity to help elect VP Harris as our first South Asian President.”
Formed in 2020, South Asians for Biden–now South Asians for Harris–has since become the largest affinity group under the AAPIs for Biden-Harris umbrella, with chapters in more than 26 states and more than a hundred national core team members. and South Asians for Harris plans to mobilize thousands of grassroots volunteers in battleground states nationwide.
“Today, we take a moment to thank President Joe Biden for being one of the most impactful and effective Presidents of our time,” said Neha Dewan, Founder and Co-National Director of South Asians for Harris. “We have been behind President Biden since 2019, and we have supported him throughout his presidency. He has led with vision and grit, and with this decision, he has put his country and democracy first. We celebrate President Biden for the man and the leader that he is and the legacy he will leave behind. Our nation owes a debt of gratitude to President Biden. We are now thrilled to endorse Vice President Harris, and we will be working tirelessly now to elect the first female, South Asian, and Black President.”
In 2020 and 2021, South Asians for Biden reached 135,000 AAPI and South Asian voters through direct voter contact and 150,000 more voters through digital and video campaigns. South Asians for Biden relaunched in April 2024 to reestablish its efforts from 2020 to re-elect President Biden and Vice President Harris.
With a little more than three months until the presidential election, South Asians for Harris will continue its focus on the role of community organizing and voter turnout in order to secure electoral victory for Vice President Harris in 2024, with an emphasis on disaggregated voter data, in-language voter outreach and building coalitions with other grassroots groups.
