Sindh Foundation Protests for Human Rights Outside Pakistani Consulate in Chicago
August 1 :
a demonstration was held outside the Pakistani Consulate in Chicago by the Sindhi Foundation. The purpose of the demonstration was to call for the rights of the Sindhi community in Pakistan. The event brought attention to the situation of Hindu girl Priya Kumari, human rights violations, and allegations of census manipulation.
The swift emancipation of Priya Kumari, a Hindu girl from Sindh who was kidnapped three years ago in Pakistan's Sindh Province, is the primary objective of the Sindhi Foundation. The larger problems that the Sindhi Hindu community is dealing with are symbolized by her ongoing incarceration.
Human rights violations against Sindhis in Pakistan have been brought to light by the Foundation as well. The Sindhi Foundation claims that the government is behind these atrocities because it wants to force all Pakistanis to adopt Islam and the Urdu language. As a result, land grabs, disappearances, and extrajudicial killings have become more commonplace for Sindhi Hindus. According to the Sindhi Foundation, the atrocities committed against Hindu Sindhis are an aspect of Pakistan's larger state-sponsored conspiracy. According to them, the government is trying to push an Islamic identity centered around Urdu speakers and marginalize non-Muslim communities.
Priya Kumari's safe return is one of the requests that the Sindhi Foundation has pledged to continue pressing till they receive. Until Pakistan stops its human rights atrocities against Sindhis, they have demanded that foreign organizations cut off funding to the country. The Sindhi Foundation is organizing a series of protests, including this one in Chicago, to bring attention to the situation of the Sindhi people in Pakistan and to rally solidarity from around the world.
