Civil Rights Icon Jesse Jackson Surprises Democratic Convention with Appearance, Honored with Emotional Tribute
Chicago, August 20 :
Reverend Jesse Jackson, an American civil rights icon, received a standing ovation during Monday's Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago after making an unexpected visit. Reverend Jackson, a prominent player in the US civil rights movement, was honored by the Democrats for his unwavering commitment to promoting equality and civil rights for all Americans His continuous struggle with Parkinson's illness, which was diagnosed in 2017, has kept him out of the limelight since then; he arrived at the DNC in a wheelchair.
Along with Reverend Al Sharpton and NAACP President Derrick Johnson, the 82-year-old civil rights leader took the stage on Monday night.
He was applauded and then waved to the audience. Even yet, he remained silent. Democratic Party chair Jamie Harrison had earlier in the evening said that Michael Jackson's 1984 DNC speech in Chicago encouraged him and the country to "keep hope alive." In his adolescent years, Jackson reportedly became involved with the civil rights movement and served as an assistant to Martin Luther King Jr.

After Martin Luther King Jr. passed away, Jackson sought to empower African Americans by establishing the Chicago-based civil rights organization Operation PUSH (People United to Save Humanity).
On Monday, August 19, the Democratic National Convention began in Chicago with keynote speakers such as former US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and First Lady Jill Biden.
Among African-American women, Harris makes history as the first to lead a major political party's ticket. A virtual vote acknowledged the vice president as the Democratic nominee earlier last month. Following Biden's decision to withdraw from the race and support her, her party rallied behind her.
After President Joe Biden withdrew from the race due to growing worries about his age, especially following his underwhelming performance in the June debate with Donald Trump, Harris was able to capture her party's candidacy for president. However, following a painful departure in 2020, Trump is planning to return to the White House.
