Jill Biden Reveals She Saw President Biden 'Dig Deep' in Deciding Against Reelection Bid
Chicago, August 20,:
Speaking at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, First Lady Jill Biden said how she had witnessed President Joe Biden "dig deep into his soul" to make the decision not to run for reelection last month. "Kamala and Tim, you will win," Jill Biden stated on Monday night (local time), addressing the newly formed Democratic ticket of Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Tim Walz of Minnesota.
The Vice President's wife, Jill Biden, spoke about how you are motivating the next generation. An article in the Washington Post stated, "We are all a part of something bigger than ourselves.".
Prior to Jill Biden's speech, Senator Chris Coons of Delaware addressed the audience, who then displayed green "JILL" banners. According to local media, Jill Biden was greeted with a standing ovation upon taking the stage. Jill Biden called on the audience to support Tim Walz and Kamala Harris in her speech. "We are going to fight, and we will win!" she exclaimed.
The Washington Post reports that Jill Biden related a story about their late son Beau telling them that Harris was "special" and that they should keep a watch on her.
In a moving tribute, Jill Biden discussed her life with her husband, Joe, from their time spent raising their children through his ascent through the ranks of the federal government, beginning with his time as vice president and ending with his term as president.
Concerns about Biden's age, especially after his poor performance in the debate with Donald Trump, led him to announce on June 21 that he was withdrawing from seeking reelection to the job.
Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, was announced by Harris as her running partner. Among a group of likely candidates hailing from states with an advantage in politics and higher levels of name recognition, Walz, 60, stood out.
Before Barack Obama and Michelle Obama took the stage on the opening night of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was scheduled to speak.
The US President arrived at the convention stage with tears streaming down his face, according to the Hill. The United Center, where the convention was held, was filled with signs reading "We [heart] Joe" and chants of "We love Joe." Biden waited more than four minutes for the cheers to die down before delivering his speech.
