Indian Doctor in Michigan Charged for Unlawful Recording of Private Images
August 22 :
Several felonies have been leveled against a 40-year-old Rochester Hills, Michigan, internal medicine expert. Over the course of six years, he allegedly secretly recorded naked photos and films of women and children who were unaware of his actions. The accused, Dr. Oumair Aejaz, allegedly secretly recorded himself in several locations, including bedrooms, locker rooms, bathrooms, changing rooms, and even a nearby swim club, according to a press statement from the Sheriff's Office.
Documenting sexual contacts with multiple women and unconscious or sleepy hospital patients is another accusation leveled against Aejaz, who is associated with Ascension Genesys Hospital and Henry Ford Macomb. The sheriff's office got a tip earlier this month, which started the investigation that led to Aejaz's arrest the next day. Over 13,000 movies were found after authorities confiscated six laptops, four cell phones, and fifteen external storage devices from Aejaz's residence. It will likely take six months to conduct the forensic analysis of these materials.
"These are children and moms at a swim school...," prosecutor Karen D. McDonald said, underscoring the seriousness of the issue. Someone the community trusted—a doctor—became their victim. The 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills heard the arraignment of Aejaz, an Indian national employed in the United States on a work visa, on August 13. Ten counts have been filed against him, including acts of sexual abuse against children, making sexually explicit materials for children using a computer, and recording women and children in their natural state.
This is one of the most heinous, possibly widespread, and unsettling examples of sexual predators that I have ever encountered in my professional life," commented Michael Bouchard, the sheriff of Oakland County, on his now-defunct Twitter account. We will spare no effort in our pursuit of this person's accountability; thousands of hours of investigation are ahead. The probe may go beyond Michigan to other states or countries where Aejaz has worked, so Sheriff Bouchard pleaded with potential victims to come forward.
