A virtual vote acknowledged the vice president as the Democratic party nominee earlier last month. The party rallied around Hillary once Biden endorsed her and pulled out of the race.
Donald Harris, an economist who retired at Stanford University at the age of 85, was born in Jamaica. Shyamala Gopalan, a breast cancer researcher who died in 2009, was born in India. Harris is the daughter of Donald and Shyamala.
In the wake of growing worries about Joe Biden's age—and especially in the wake of his dismal performance in the June debate with Donald Trump—Harris was able to capture her party's candidacy for president.
Harris will officially receive the nomination for president during Thursday's speech, which is dedicated to the subject "For the Future."
The convention usually has a roll call vote to officially nominate candidates for president and vice president.
But earlier this month, after Harris won a virtual roll call with the majority of delegates, she formally became the presidential nominee. Because of possible problems with ballot access in Ohio, the poll was postponed until early August. At the convention, a ceremonial roll call will still likely be held.
