U.S. Greenlights Sale of Anti-Submarine Warfare Sonobuoys to India
Washington DC, August 24 :
For an estimated USD 52.8 million, the United States could sell anti-submarine warfare Sonobuoys and associated equipment to India, according to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. In a press statement, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced that it has notified Congress of this potential sale by delivering the necessary certification.
One notable US Department of Defense agency is the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
The Indian government has placed an order for AN/SSQ-53G and AN/SSQ-62F high-altitude anti-submarine warfare sonobuoys, as well as AN/SSQ-36 sonobuoys, as well as technical and publication materials, data documentation, engineering and technical support from the US government and contractors, and other logistical and program-related components. According to the organization, the projected total expense is USD 52.8 million.
The US-India strategic relationship and the security of a key defense partner, India, are both bolstered by this planned sale, which will aid US foreign policy and national security goals. India is a driving force for economic growth, political stability, and peace in the South Asian and Indo-Pacific regions.
As a result of the planned sale, India will be better able to conduct anti-submarine warfare missions using its MH-60R helicopters, making it more capable of meeting both present and future threats. The Indian military will have no trouble incorporating this technology.
In addition, the agency emphasized that the planned sale of these supplies and services will not shake up the region's fundamental military balance. Sparton Corporation of De Leon Springs, FL, Undersea Sensor Systems Inc. (USSI) of Columbia City, IN, or a mix of the two will be the major contractor(s). It went on to say that aside from this possible sale, no offset arrangements have been suggested.
