September 4 :
In the nation's capital, -On Tuesday, former US President Donald Trump announced in a court filing that he will enter a not-guilty plea to the criminal allegations contained in a new indictment that sought to nullify his 2020 election loss. Republican presidential candidate Trump, who lost the election on November 5th, gave his attorneys permission to submit the plea on his behalf, waiving his right to appear in court.

Last Friday, Special Counsel Jack Smith received the updated indictment, which retains the four allegations that were first brought against Trump last year. There were allegations that he sought to defraud the US, prevent the election from being certified by Congress, and deny voters their right to a fair vote. The United States Supreme Court's decision to grant extensive immunity to President Trump from criminal prosecution for official acts as president led to the dismissal or rephrasing of some charges in the new indictment.

In August 2023, Trump made an appearance in a Washington federal court to enter a not guilty plea to the accusations contained in the original indictment. Thursday is the date of the prosecution's and defense team's court appearance to discuss the future steps following the Supreme Court's immunity decision.
