Hurricane Francine Hits Louisiana, Bringing Torrential Rains and Severe Flooding

Hurricane Francine strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane on Wednesday (local time) as it made landfall on the coast of Louisiana, US, As per The Washington Post). Chauvin, Dulac, and Cocodrie were among the areas depicted in photos and videos that went viral online due to the increasing water levels and flooding.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Francine made landfall in Terrebonne Parish, southern Louisiana, about 5 p.m. Central time. This is approximately 30 miles southwest of Morgan City.
The storm was a Category 2 and had gusts of up to 100 mph.
Francine follows Beryl, which made landfall in Matagorda, Texas on July 8, and Debby, which made landfall near Steinhatchee, Florida on August 5, as the third hurricane of the year to impact the United States. As Francine approaches the coast of Louisiana on Wednesday night, she is expected to unleash yet another burst of strength, as reported by The Washington Post.
The storm has upgraded to a Category 2 after reaching 100 mph in sustained winds.
After Hurricane Ida knocked power to southern Louisiana for two weeks in 2021, the town's officials vowed to make sure it wouldn't happen again. A concept they proposed is "community lighthouses."
Solar outposts with backup batteries would stabilize the towns after a storm, according to The Washington Post.
They might house those in need for an extended period of time, providing them with electricity, air conditioning, and a safe place to keep their prescriptions and personal devices.
New Orleanians were advised to remain indoors and away from roadways until Wednesday at 11 a.m. On the other hand, a parish-wide curfew was instituted at 8 a.m. Wednesday in Terrebonne Parish, which is located approximately one hour southwest of the city and is more squarely in Francine's forecast route. Residents residing in the lowest coastal sections of the parish were also issued a mandatory evacuation order.
