Trump Maintains Schedule and Fiery Rhetoric Following Apparent Assassination Attempt
September 17 :
The campaign and friends of Donald Trump announced that he would resume his planned trail activities this week and likely continue playing golf the day after what seemed to be his second suicide attempt in two months.
As information on the attempted assassination attempt became public knowledge on September 16, the Republican presidential nominee maintained a low profile. At Trump's Palm Beach, Florida, residence, he met with the acting chief of the United States Secret Service, did a press interview, and once brought up the event on Truth Social.
He made the unfounded assertion in a Fox News interview that the alleged shooter was motivated by Democrats' "extremely inflammatory language," which he then echoed in a social media post along with his own harsh criticism. "Because of this Communist Left Rhetoric, the bullets are flying, and it will only get worse!" It was written by Trump.
Along with requests for financial support, his campaign sent an email reiterating its claims that the would-be assassin was inspired by remarks made by President Joe Biden, Democratic presidential contender Kamala Harris, and other Democrats.
With his attempt to reverse his loss in the 2020 election leading to the assault on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, Vice President Harris and other Democrats have painted Trump as a threat to American democracy. Following the September 15th attempted murder attempt, Vice President Biden said on X, "Violence has no place in America." Senator Harris joined Biden in denouncing the incident. Trump and Biden had a conversation on September 16th.
As an example of Trump's history of using racist and sexist language and incendiary rhetoric, consider his repeated statements about illegal immigrants "poisoning the blood of our country" and his more recent dissemination of the unfounded accusation that Haitian immigrants in Ohio are devouring cats and dogs.
The fact that a gunman came within 500 yards of Trump while he golfed on his West Palm Beach club infuriated the former president's allies, both publicly and privately. Reuters was told by Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville, who is close to Trump, that Trump requires the full support of the Secret Service, just as he did as president of the US. "If not, we're gonna have a disaster on our hands."
With just seven weeks to go until the election on November 5th, there was no sign that the most recent apparent attempt on Trump's life would significantly change his campaign tactics or plan. Trump now addresses rallies mostly behind bulletproof glass after his campaign momentarily halted outdoor events following the prior attempt on his life at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13.
A person familiar with the former president's plans said that on Monday night, he will hold the debut of his cryptocurrency business at his Mar-a-Lago residence, just as planned. Following that, on September 17, he will reportedly have a town hall in Flint, Michigan; on September 18, he will hold a rally in New York; and on September 21, he will hold yet another rally in North Carolina. Indoor locations will serve as the sites for all.
At this time, it was unclear whether Trump would continue to play golf. The Secret Service would have a hard time removing him from the course, according to a close associate. According to that person, it's his sole effective method of relieving stress
