Colorado Springs Shooting Spree: Indian-Origin Plastic Surgeon Charged with Multiple Felonies
September 19 :
One person was wounded and a lot of property was damaged in a shooting spree in Colorado Springs on September 15th; a plastic surgeon of Indian descent is now facing multiple crimes charges. Aggravated robbery, second-degree assault, criminal mischief, illegal discharge of a firearm, and reckless endangerment are among the charges against 53-year-old Rupesh Jain, who is affiliated with UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central.
A resident of the Volta at Voyager apartment complex contacted 911 after being shot while sleeping around 6:15 a.m., according to the Colorado Springs Police Department. The rampage then began. In addition to finding 25-year-old Laken Duerschmidt wounded in the forearm, police also uncovered bullet holes and shell shells in the neighboring, unoccupied flat.
Reports from the area indicate that Jain allegedly damaged windows and an ATM after firing rounds into a KeyBank on Spectrum Loop, prompting officials to respond to gunfire. Jain had threatened the same bank in July 2024, according to investigators, but no charges were brought against him at the time.
Before trying to go inside the restaurant, Jain shot at a Village Inn close to Woodmen and Powers. Quickly after that, another KeyBank situated between Woodmen and Lexington came under attack as well. The same suspect, according to the authorities, was engaged in each occurrence.
After Jain went home with a key lime pie from the Village Inn, he was detained at his residence at around 7:30 a.m. After his arrest, the shelter-in-place order was withdrawn for his apartment complex's inhabitants. The ongoing investigations have resulted in the postponement of Jain's court hearing, which was initially set for September 18th. According to reports, the accused was struggling with mental health and had intentions to take his own life.
