Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri Highlights Bilateral, Plurilateral, and Multilateral Aspects of PM Modi's US Visit

The upcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Quad summit, according to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, highlights several important aspects, including bilateral, plurilateral, and multilateral cooperation. Misri further asserted that the summit's agenda includes developing the Indo-Pacific region and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.
While briefing reporters on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's impending trip to the US for the forthcoming Quad summit, Misri made the following comments.
Noting that "PM Modi will be visiting the US from September 21-23," Misri went on to describe the events that will unfold in the US during Modi's visit. A number of crucial elements are encompassed in this visit. It has tremendous significance on both sides, as well as plurilateral and multilateral dimensions. At the prime ministerial level, there will be communication with a range of international partners. There will be communication with the huge Indian community in the United States. Along with that, there will be interactions with numerous prominent figures in the business and industry.
"The hometown of President Joe Biden, Wilmington, Delaware, will be the site of the PM's first speech," he continued. The sixth Quad summit will also be held there.
The prime minister will go to New York to attend the Summit of the Future, as Misri explained further. The PM will depart from Wilmington. He mentioned that Prime Minister Modi will have several engagements throughout the course of the three days. Bilateral meetings will take place on September 21st, in addition to the Quad summit itself. Cancer Moonshot will be a special event that will take place alongside the Quad Summit. The prime minister will meet with members of the Indian diaspora on September 22. The locals of Long Island, New York, are coordinating this.
When asked about the Cancer Moonshot initiative's goal, Misri pointed out, "Through the Cancer Moonshot initiative, the Quad aims to implement innovative strategies to prevent, detect, treat, and alleviate the impact of cancer on patients and their families, and to begin with, we intend to collaborate to reduce the burden of cervical cancer in the Indo-Pacific region."
The foreign secretary added that during PM Modi's three-day visit, he will meet with multiple CEOs from the technology sector. "There will be a technology roundtable with a number of tech CEOs where we will have the opportunity to discuss the tech investment landscape and the opportunities that are available here," said Misri. "There will be several other meetings with stakeholders and bilateral meetings with head of states," said the official.
At the UN General Assembly Summit of the Future on September 23, the prime minister will deliver a speech. "That day is being set up for a few more bilateral meetings," Misri told.
Misri elaborated on the Quad's objective, saying that it remains committed to "developing the Indo-Pacific, implementing Sustainable Development Goals, delivering public goods, and having a strong focus on peace, prosperity and stability in the Indo-Pacific region."
According to him, "Our agenda includes covering health security, climate change, critical and emerging technology, HADR, connectivity, maritime security, and counter-terrorism."
The impending visit, the Foreign Secretary added, gives the Quad leaders a chance to review the last year's accomplishments and plan for the next.
While speaking with President Biden one-on-one, Misri elaborated on the subject of agreement exchange between India and the US. "At the bilarteral meeting with President Joe Biden, there will be an opportunity for both sides to exchange a few agreements -- Indo-Pacific economy related framework agreements, and India-US drug framework," added Misri.
“There are many meetings with the Prime Minister right now which we are trying to fix,” Misri said when asked about the prospect of meeting with former US President Donald Trump. Whether a particular meeting has been rescheduled or not, I am unable to provide you with that information at this time. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the Quad Summit and deliver an address at the United Nations General Assembly in New York during his visit to the United States from September 21 to 23, when he will also be visiting the country.
In Wilmington, Delaware, on September 21, Prime Minister Modi will attend the fourth Quad Leaders' Summit, which is being hosted by US President Joe Biden. India has graciously agreed to host the next Quad Summit in 2025, following the US side's proposal to do so this year.
According to a press release from the Ministry of External Affairs, the leaders of the four Quadrants will convene at the Quad Summit to discuss the past year's accomplishments and plan for the coming year in order to help the Indo-Pacific nations realize their development objectives.
