September 20 :
Even though billionaire Elon Musk has backed Republican candidate Donald Trump for president, most of his collection of firms' employees are giving to Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, who is running against Trump. According to OpenSecrets, a neutral organization that monitors campaign contributions and lobbying data in the United States, Tesla employees have donated $42,824 to Harris' presidential campaign, while Trump has received $24,840.

While Musk's rocket company SpaceX employees gave $7,652 to Trump, Harris received $34,526. A total of $13,213 has been donated to Harris by X employees (the platform was formerly known as Twitter), while Trump has received less than $500. Even if the amounts aren't huge compared to other campaign fundraisers, they do show a political bias that differs from Musk's own. While endorsing Trump on X, the wealthiest man in the world, Musk, has called left-leaning ideologies a "woke-mind virus."

A request for comment was not promptly addressed by Musk. After supporting Joe Biden for president in 2020, he began to lean to the right. If Trump is elected president on November 5, he has promised to select Musk to head a panel to improve government efficiency. Employees, proprietors, and close family members of those people have donated to OpenSecrets. Companies cannot donate to federal campaigns in accordance with campaign finance laws.

Gerber Kawasaki Wealth and Investment Management CEO Ross Gerber, who is also a Tesla shareholder, noted that many of Musk's staff are located in Democratic-leaning California. Additionally, Gerber has invested in X. Musk mentioned in July that he would be relocating the headquarters of X and SpaceX from California to Texas. He cited a gender-identity law in California as the "last straw." "Losing out on a lot of potential talent" in California would be the result, according to Gerber.
