Hurricane Helene Strikes Hard, Resulting in 93 Deaths and Widespread Power Outages

Storm Helene wreaked havoc on the Southeast, killing 93 people, knocking out electricity to millions, and trapping many families in floodwaters, as reported by CNN.It has been reported that people have died in Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, and Florida.

Authorities in North Carolina have confirmed the deaths of 36 individuals. According to authorities, two firefighters from Saluda County were among the 25 casualties in South Carolina. A representative for Georgia Governor Brian Kemp confirmed that at least 17 individuals had lost their lives, with two of those being claimed by a tornado in Alamo.

In North Carolina, 36 deaths have been reported by county and state officials. In South Carolina, 25 people have died, including 2 firefighters from Saluda County. According to a representative for Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, at least seventeen people have died in the state, with two of those being tornado casualties in Alamo.

At least eleven people have lost their lives in Florida, with many drownings reported in Pinellas County alone (Gov. Ron DeSantis, Saturday). Authorities in Virginia confirmed two fatalities on Sunday, while CNN cited Tennessee as reporting two fatalities.

North Carolina's Buncombe County has gotten almost 600 complaints of missing people through an online form, according to Sunday's statement from County Manager Avril Pinder.

Joe Biden, president of the United States, has also promised that federal, state, and local officials are working together to help communities hit by Hurricane Helene.

"My administration is in continual contact with state and local officials to ensure communities have the support and resources they need," Biden stated, sharing a post on X. He added, "I continue to be briefed by my team on the ongoing response efforts in Hurricane Helene's wake." Communities will be able to start the rebuilding process as soon as possible because we will spare no effort in our support of emergency and recovery operations.

The pastor said, "Jill and I are praying for those who lost loved ones from Hurricane Helene, and for those whose homes, businesses, and communities were impacted by this terrible storm."
