October 3:
Concerned that requiring a hand count of ballots in the Nov. 5 election could cause delays in announcing results and turmoil, the Democratic National Committee filed a lawsuit on September 30th to prevent the Georgia Election Board from doing so.
A regulation change was accepted by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's allies on a 3-2 vote. It mandates that poll workers manually count ballots to verify that the totals match those calculated by machines.

This change would cause "wreak havoc" on the election and "significant delays" in publishing vote totals, according to a petition filed by the DNC in Fulton County court. The statement issued by DNC interim Co-Executive Director Monica Guardiola characterized the regulation as an obvious effort by Donald Trump and his MAGA cronies on the Georgia State Election Board to cast doubt on the legitimacy of our elections and to discredit the results.

Requests for comment were not promptly addressed by a representative of the Georgia Election Board.Just in the past few weeks, Democrats have launched a second lawsuit challenging the board. The Democratic National Committee filed a lawsuit in August to prevent rule changes that would allow Georgia's local election officials to probe results before certifying them.

The Democratic Party claims that the purpose of these adjustments is to further postpone the results and cast doubt on their veracity. The trial is set to commence in Atlanta on October 1st.
