A Canadian non-profit organization that promotes bilateral relations, the Canada India Foundation (CIF) presented the 2024 Global Indian Award to Sadhguru, an Indian spiritual leader. The "unparalleled contributions towards creating a conscious planet" and Sadhguru's leadership in tackling environmental issues deserved recognition. Indian-Americans who have made a difference on a worldwide scale were honored during an event on October 20.

In his assessment of world issues, Sadhguru received high acclaim from Ritesh Malik, chair of the Canada India Foundation. "In Sadhguru, we have a perfect union of understanding the current challenges and finding solutions to the most pressing issues, guided by the wisdom traditions of the ancient Indian spiritual and knowledge systems as well as straight-forward common sense, which unfortunately is not so common anymore," according to Malik.

Malik drew attention to the real-world answers Sadhguru provides, which address issues like soil degradation and climate change as well as more localized ones like individual health. He went on to say that the public health priorities of Canada, especially in the fight against mental illness, are in line with Sadhguru's focus on holistic techniques like meditation and yoga.

In his acceptance speech, Sadhguru thanked the Canada India Foundation for their support and revealed that the 36,500 US dollars (or 50,000 Canadian dollars) would go toward the Cauvery Calling environmental program, which is part of the Isha Foundation's larger effort to restore the Cauvery River in southern India.

The subject of the foundation, "Creating a Conscious Planet," was congruent with Sadhguru's mission of inclusivity, personal development, and sustainability. The teachings of Sadhguru are in harmony with Canada's commitment to personal wellness, environmental responsibility, and diversity and inclusion, as Malik pointed out.
