Three Indian American Republicans Slam Kamala Harris’s Immigration, Healthcare, and Foreign Policies
October 23 :
Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has been under fire from three well-known Indian American Republicans for her stances on immigration, healthcare, and international relations. The 2024 election is quickly approaching, and many prominent figures are speaking out against Harris. These include former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy.
An online advertisement by Bobby Jindal, a former governor of Louisiana, criticized Harris's Medicare plan, asserting that it would provide healthcare to twelve million undocumented immigrants. "Her plan will drain the Medicare system, a program seniors have paid into their entire lives," Jindal pointed out. The additional strain on the American healthcare system and longer wait times for doctor's visits were further concerns he raised.
Similarly, Jindal, who sought the presidency in 2016, stressed that this would cost roughly $2 trillion. "Kamala’s plan is nothing but a gold-plated invitation to more illegal immigration," he added. In a Fox News interview, former South Carolina governor and 2024 Republican primary contender Nikki Haley reiterated Jindal's critique. Saying, "Harris and her running mate Tim Walz lack the experience to handle international threats," she brought attention to her worries about Harris's stances on immigration and foreign affairs. They put American security at risk by doing things like backing the Iran deal.
According to Fox News, at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania last week, Trump supporter and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy criticized Harris, calling her a "radical liberal" who "can't produce results.". In states where the election is close, Ramaswamy has been aggressively campaigning for Trump, trying to sway the undecided and garner more support for the former president. Campaigning for Indian American voters in battleground areas is now being spearheaded by Kash Patel, another well-known Republican from India and a close associate of Trump. Patel, a former senior official under Trump, has been a driving force behind the president's agenda and is said by The New York Times to be planning to head the CIA should Trump be re-elected.
