OpenAI Names Indian-American Economist Dr. Aaron Chatterji as Its First Chief Economist
October 24 :
The groundbreaking artificial intelligence company OpenAI has welcomed Dr. Aaron Chatterji, an economist of Indian American descent, to the position of chief economist. According to an official announcement, Chatterji, a renowned professor of management and public policy at Duke University, will spearhead studies examining the financial effects of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential to propel innovation and economic growth on a worldwide scale.
As part of his new role, Chatterji will offer advice on how artificial intelligence (AI)-driven innovation may address complicated economic problems while simultaneously increasing productivity. In addition to illuminating opportunities and threats, his research will aid academics, governments, and corporations in making the most of AI.
The post is a perfect fit for Chatterji, who has spent his career researching the effects of innovation and entrepreneurship on society and the economy. He is thrilled to put his knowledge to use by lending his expertise to OpenAI's cause. I am excited to be a part of studies that will guide our economy's shift to one powered by artificial intelligence.
According to Larry Summers, a former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury and current board member of OpenAI, AI has the ability to accelerate innovation and enhance productivity, much like electricity, which might lead to a revolution in our economy. Summers lauded Chatterji's hiring. OpenAI's goal is to develop artificial intelligence (AI) technologies that promote growth and long-term prosperity; Chatterji will lead this effort because of his extensive knowledge of the factors that influence our economy and society. Among Chatterji's previous positions are those of chief economist for the United States Department of Commerce and acting deputy director of the White House National Economic Council.
