Indian-Canadian Man Arrested in Connection with Assault of Three Women
November 29 :
Three women were sexually assaulted earlier this month, leading to the arrest and charging of a 22-year-old male from Brampton, Canada, who is of Indian descent. The individual in question, known as Arshdeep Singh, is facing multiple charges, including abduction, sexual assault, sexual assault involving a weapon, sexual assault by strangulation, robbery, and making threats.
The events in question took place in the Vaughan and Brampton regions on November 16 and 8, 2024, respectively. In each of the three incidents, Singh allegedly conned ladies at bus stations into getting into his black four-door vehicle by pretending to be a rideshare driver.
The initial incident occurred in Brampton on the morning of November 8th, close to the intersection of Countryside Drive and Bramalea Road. The victim was allegedly assaulted by Singh after she was driven to an isolated area near Vaughan's Highway 27 and Nashville Road after Singh offered her a lift. A second woman in Brampton was approached near the intersection of Goreridge Crescent and Via Romano Way less than half an hour after the first. They took her to a remote area close to the intersection of Highway 50 and Gore Road, where they brutally attacked her.
In Brampton, a third attack happened on November 16th, close to the intersection of Airport Road and Humberwest Parkway. The victim was assaulted at a place on Countryside Drive after accepting a ride in a vehicle driven by a male.
Following accounts from survivors describing consistent patterns of conduct, Peel Police were able to connect the three occurrences to a single individual. During the attacks, the suspect spoke Punjabi to the victims, which gave investigators a crucial clue that led them to Singh.
A thorough investigation led to Singh's arrest and subsequent charges. According to the police, the suspect's actions and vehicle description were consistent across all three attacks, leading them to think that the same guy was responsible for each one. Bail was granted to Singh when he made an appearance at the Brampton, Ontario Court of Justice following his arrest. Whether he has hired an attorney is a secret, according to the authorities.
Many in the Brampton and Vaughan regions are worried about their safety as a result of this crime, particularly those who use public transit. The authorities have warned the public to exercise caution and always check the driver's identification before getting into a ridesharing.
If anyone has any other information or knows who Singh may have approached, they are invited to come forward by the Peel Police, who are continuing their investigation.
