December 4 :
In connection with the hit-and-run killing of 23-year-old Priyanshu Agwal, an international student from India earning a master's degree at the University of New Haven, a 41-year-old lady has been arrested in October 2023.

The Hartford Courant reports that on November 18th, Jill Augelli was arrested and charged with dodging responsibility as a result of death.
Arrested on a $100,000 bond, Augelli is set to make his appearance in New Haven Superior Court on December 3. Approximately eleven minutes after midnight on October 18, 2023, at a New Haven junction, Agwal was riding her electric scooter when she was hit by a vehicle. After leaving Agwal seriously hurt, the driver continued on.

The injured Agwal was sent to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he died about a week after. The next day in Naugatuck, authorities found the wrecked vehicle and determined that Augelli was the owner on the registration. Authorities added that forensic evidence, such as Agwal's DNA found on Augelli's vehicle and GPS data that placed her close to the accident site, assisted in the development of their case.

New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson admitted that there were difficulties in collecting evidence. "We had to force her into the driver's seat during the collision," he explained.

At the conference, Aman—Agwal's brother—made an impassioned commentary. The man went on to say, "I simply want to say I miss my brother every day." He went on to mention that he often dreams about his brother. Saying, "I feel like she didn't try to stop, and it led to a major injury," Aman vented her frustration at the motorist for not attempting to stop following the collision.

For his "outgoing, charismatic personality" and "big smile," which brought him many friends, New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker lauded Agwal's character. In his statement, Elicker praised Agwal, saying, "He was loved by many and had his whole life ahead of him." Agwal was about to finish his graduate studies and had been searching for positions in the US.

Agwal moved to the United States in 2022 from his hometown of Deoli, Rajasthan, to get a master's degree in statistics. Proving his ambition for a prosperous future, he had also interned as a business analyst at an IT firm. The significance of responsible driving and avoiding accidents was highlighted by Elicker. He made it clear that he would find and punish anyone who tried to escape.
