On Monday, November 25, Pope Francis received an international delegation of Jains at the
Vatican. The meeting, facilitated by the Institute of Jainology in London, aimed to foster dialogue
and cooperation between Jains and Christians.
Dr. Jasvant Modi and Dr. Meera Modi, esteemed members of the delegation, were personally
Blessed by Pope Francis for their philanthropic efforts towards creating a peaceful and
compassionate world through Academia and Interfaith exchange.
Reflecting on the encounter, Dr. Modi commented, "This solemn experience has left an indelible
mark on our lives. We’ll endure these unforgettable memories and the opportunity to engage in
a meaningful dialogue."
The meeting was part of the Vatican's ongoing interfaith dialogue efforts, promoted by the
Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue. Pope Francis emphasized the importance of perseverance
in constructive efforts and initiatives that foster humanity, hope, and universal fraternity.
He encouraged the delegation to continue spreading love, helping those in need, and respecting
differences. The Pope expressed gratitude for their efforts, stating that this collaborative
approach "revitalizes our efforts to care for one another and for our common home."
The IOJ has maintained strong and positive relations with the Holy See for over 30
years and this was their 4th major Jain delegation to Rome for dialogue with the
Dicastery and continue to build on areas of convergence and add our collective voices
to those demanding urgent solutions to the climate crises and unprecedented human
suffering.
