Posing as traffic police, a scam; a message claiming a car accident; the elderly man lost lakhs.
Traffic police impersonated and swindled millions. .The scam originated from a message sent in the name of Bengaluru Traffic Police to a resident of Panampilly Nagar. "Your car in Bengaluru has met with an accident. You must provide the documents we request"—this was the message. An 85-year-old resident of Panampilly Nagar fell victim to the scam. Even though he stated that he did not own a vehicle in Bengaluru, an officer in a police uniform appeared on video and demanded that he provide his Aadhaar details. Then, claiming that a large scam had occurred using the Aadhaar details, the officer demanded money to be transferred from the elderly man's account. Once the money was transferred, the scammers disappeared.
In Kochi alone, within two weeks, there have been nearly 50 digital arrests and cyber scams, including fake trading apps. The digital scam group is active with new tactics. It is the elderly and housewives that these individuals target. Both women and men work as agents in this scam group.A commission of 2,000 rupees will be given for every lakh.
