Tamil Nadu Rural Development Minister I. Periyasamy has stated that the water level in the Mullaperiyar Dam will be raised to 152 feet. The minister said that under the DMK government, the dream of the people of Tamil Nadu will be realized. Periyasamy told the media that increasing the water storage in the dam is the dream of the people, and that no land owned by the state will be given up. His response came after assessing the rainfall damage in Theni district.

Last week, Kerala granted Tamil Nadu permission to carry out maintenance work on the Mullaperiyar Dam. Permission was granted for seven works, including cement painting at the spillway and dam areas. The permission with conditions was granted following a discussion between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan during Stalin's visit to Vaikom.

The works can only be carried out in the presence of the Executive Engineer of the Idukki MI Division or the person appointed by him. Construction materials must be brought with prior permission and can only be transported during the daytime. There will be inspections at the check posts. No construction will be allowed without prior permission. The order states that the Forest Law must be followed. The incident where Kerala stopped a Tamil Nadu vehicle carrying construction materials was also controversial.
