Renjini RamachandranEight people receive new life through Alan Anuraj. The organs of Alan Anuraj, a Malayali student who suffered brain death in a road accident in Bengaluru on New Year’s Day, were donated. The donation included both eyes, heart, two kidneys, pancreas, lungs, liver, and corneas. The organs were handed over to various hospitals in Karnataka.
Alan Anuraj (19), son of Anuraj Thomas and Bini Anuraj from Puthenvelikkara, Ernakulam, was a first-year physiotherapy student at Saptagiri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in Bengaluru. On January 1, 2025, he was critically injured in a bike accident in Bengaluru. Although he was admitted to Sparsh Hospital in Yeshwanthpur, he was declared brain-dead. Following this, Alan's family agreed to donate his organs.
The organ donation process was completed under the leadership of the Karnataka government’s 'Jeevasarthakathe', which coordinates posthumous organ donation, and recipients were identified. Health Minister Veena George expressed her gratitude to Alan’s family, who showed immense generosity by giving new life to eight people despite the pain of losing their son. Alan is survived by his brothers Amal and Alwin. His funeral will be held tomorrow at 4 PM at St. George Church, Malavana, Puthenvelikkara.
