Renjini RamachandranThe couple's death has been confirmed to be a brutal murder, not a suicide. The horrific incident took place on New Year's Eve in Biga village of Lalitpur district, Uttar Pradesh. Mithun Kushwaha, a 22-year-old man, was found hanging, while Kamini Sahu, an 18-year-old woman, was found dead behind the house. Their families strongly opposed their relationship. The police investigation revealed that the woman’s relatives were behind the brutal murders.
As per the instructions of the village panchayat, Mithun had moved to his uncle’s house. However, after midnight, he would secretly visit Kamini’s house to meet her. Realizing this, the woman’s relatives planned the murder and waited for the right moment to execute it. On January 1, which was the woman’s birthday, her relatives anticipated that Mithun would definitely come to celebrate. They waited for him, and when he arrived at night, they caught him, tied his hands, forced him to drink poison, and strangled him to death. When Kamini resisted and threatened to report the incident to the police, the relatives forced her to drink poison and strangled her to death as well. Mithun’s body was tied and hung from a tree, while Kamini’s body was abandoned behind the house.
As planned earlier, the family pretended that Kamini was missing and started a search. After discovering the body, they informed the police. The post-mortem report confirmed that the victims were strangled to death, which turned the investigation toward the family members. The woman’s father, mother, and uncle have been taken into police custody.
