Renjini RamachandranA transformer was stolen, and the village has been in darkness for three weeks. The incident took place in Soraha village in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh. The transformer installed in the village was stolen, leaving more than 5,000 residents, including students and farmers, without electricity for the past three weeks. The students preparing for the upcoming UP Board exams have also been facing disruptions in their studies due to the lack of power.
The locals came to know about the theft of the transformer on December 15. It was some residents who were out for their morning walk who discovered that the 250 kVA transformer had been stolen. The thieves had stolen the copper wires and oil from the transformer and left the remaining parts abandoned in a nearby field. Transformer thefts are common during winter. Measures have been taken to temporarily restore power to the village, and arrangements have been made to supply electricity to Soraha from a nearby village, said Narendra Chaudhary, Executive Engineer of the Electricity Department. He also mentioned that they have requested the police to intensify patrolling to prevent further thefts.
