In just over two years, a young girl from Kumarakom achieved the seemingly impossible dream. This is the story of Ameeta Kamicheril, daughter of Aniyan and Tresa Kamicheril. Ameeta joined the University of Birmingham in England in 2022 for a master's in social work. In December of 2024, she conquered the task with distinction. As the valedictorian for the class of 2024, her inspirational speech is nothing short of amazing. This is another example of what can be achieved with dedication and hard work. Let this be an example of all those young men and women with futuristic aspirations of success.

It is with immense pride and joy that we share the remarkable journey of Ameeta Mary Kamicheril, an exceptional individual who has recently achieved a significant milestone in her academic and professional career. Ameeta graduated with a Master’s in Social Work with First Class Merit from the prestigious University of Birmingham, UK—ranked among the top 50 universities globally. Her outstanding academic achievements and commitment to social work earned her the title of Best Outgoing Student from the School of Social Sciences and Social Policy. Ameeta was also honored with the privilege of delivering the valedictory speech during her graduation ceremony, a moment of immense pride for her parents, Aniyan Kamicheril and Mrs. Tresa Aniyan Thachara, who hail from the scenic backwaters of Kerala, Kumarakom.


An Academic Journey Defined by Excellence

Ameeta’s journey toward becoming a social worker is an inspiring tale of resilience and dedication. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Economics, and Political Science from Christ University, Bangalore, graduating with distinction. Her academic foundation laid the groundwork for her passion for addressing social issues and making a difference in the lives of marginalized communities.

In 2021, Ameeta was selected for the prestigious Youth for India Fellowship by the SBI Foundation, where she worked with tribal communities in Gujarat, contributing to rural development initiatives. This experience further deepened her understanding of social challenges and strengthened her resolve to pursue a career in social work.

A Valued Social Worker in the NHS


Ameeta’s academic and professional journey has now brought her to Plymouth, where she serves as a Social Worker with NHS Livewell Southwest. Joining the NHS has been a significant step in her career, enabling her to support diverse communities and address complex social issues in the UK. She secured her work permit before Christmas, marking the beginning of an impactful chapter in her career.

A Family’s Pride and a Global Inspiration

As parents, Aniyan and Tresa Kamicheril could not be prouder of their daughter’s achievements. Seated in the front row during Ameeta’s graduation ceremony, they witnessed a moment of great pride and joy as she stood on stage, inspiring her peers and faculty members alike.

Ameeta’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance, compassion, and dedication. From the backwaters of Kerala to one of the world’s most prestigious universities and a meaningful role in the NHS, Ameeta continues to make a difference in the lives of others, inspiring many along the way.
