Saraswathi returned to the crumbling house, carrying the lifeless body of her son.

It was the fate of this mother, Saraswathi, to return to her crumbling house with the lifeless body of her son. Saraswathi from Panjirikka in Kumbadaje will still remain a constant shadow, a source of support and shelter, following her mentally challenged son Udayakumar. Udayakumar (34), who was affected by endosulfan poisoning, had been undergoing treatment at the Kasargod General Hospital since the beginning of December. On Sunday, that son bid farewell to his mother and to this world.

Their life of suffering, living in a crumbling house, was reported in the news earlier. Udayakumar's brother and relatives had submitted a petition to the Collector seeking help. However, despite investigations and other actions, no assistance was provided. Saraswathi returned to the crumbling house with the lifeless body of her son. Under the PMAY scheme, a house has been allotted to Saraswathi. An initial amount of ₹48,000 was provided for construction. With this money, she purchased bricks. However, it is not possible to build a new house without demolishing the current roof.

However, the problem they are currently facing is that if they demolish the existing roof, they will have nowhere else to stay. Satish, the son, who has lost partial vision in one eye due to an injury, occasionally goes to work, but the earnings he makes are not enough for anything. Therefore, it is not possible for them to live on rent. Her husband, Sudham Maniyani, is also severely affected by tuberculosis. This mother, who has spent 34 years struggling behind her mentally challenged son, now only wishes for a place to lay her head in her old age.
