Grew cannabis plants on his land; elderly man sentenced to 12 years in prison.

An elderly man grew cannabis plants on his own land. The court imposed both imprisonment and a fine. The man, identified as Alavikutty, a 67-year-old from Muttian's house in Arappetta Mosque Colony, Mooppanadu, was sentenced to twelve years in prison and fined ₹1,20,000 by the Wayanad Additional Sessions Court (Special NDPS Judge) V. Anas. The incident that formed the basis of the case occurred in June 2020.

The team led by P.C. Sajeev, who was the Sub-Inspector of the Meppadi Police Station at the time, discovered the cannabis plants and arrested Saidalavi, taking the case forward. The cannabis plants were found growing in their natural state on his land. Subsequently, Inspector S.H.O. G. Rajkumar conducted the investigation and submitted the charge sheet before the court. Public Prosecutors I.V. Lijeesh and M.G. Sradhadharane appeared on behalf of the prosecution.
