Renjini RamachandranThe bodies of all four people who went missing after being swept away in the Bharathapuzha have been recovered. The deceased are Shahina, her sister’s son Fuad, her husband Kabir, and her daughter Sara, all residents of Cheruthuruthy. The accident occurred at the Pinekulam cremation ghat in Cheruthuruthy, Bharathapuzha. Reihana was rescued by locals and taken to the hospital, but her life could not be saved. During the subsequent search, the bodies of the other three were also recovered.
Though the area was familiar to them, it is believed that the residents of Cheruthuruthy were unexpectedly caught in the current. When one of the children fell into the river, the others entered the water to rescue them. The accident occurred before 6 PM. They were swept away in a deep area where a vortex had formed. Fire Force officer M.S. Suvi stated that none of the four victims knew how to swim.
