Padma Awards 2025: 10 International Recipients Honored for Outstanding Contributions

The Ministry of External Affairs has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Padma Award recipients from abroad, acknowledging their exceptional contributions to various fields. In a post on X, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal praised the honorees, stating, “Commemorating excellence & contributions to society. Congratulations to our distinguished friends from abroad on being selected for Padma Awards 2025 by President Droupadi Murmu for their outstanding contribution in various fields.”

Among the distinguished recipients is Osamu Suzuki from Japan, who was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan in the Trade and Industry category. His legacy in the field of trade and industry has made a significant impact, earning him the country's highest civilian honor.

From the United States, Vinod Dham has been conferred with the Padma Bhushan in the Science and Engineering category. Dham is celebrated for his contributions to the development of modern semiconductor technology, earning him global recognition in the field of engineering.

In the Science and Engineering category, Ajay V Bhatt and Sethuraman Panchanathan from the US, alongside Chetan E Chitnis from France, received the Padma Shri. Their exceptional work in scientific research, innovation, and technology has garnered worldwide acclaim, contributing significantly to advancements in their respective fields.

In the realm of literature and education, Stephen Knapp and Nitin Nohria, both from the US, as well as Arvind Sharma from Canada, were honored with the Padma Shri. Their remarkable work in academia, literature, and educational leadership has enriched the global intellectual landscape.

The Padma Shri in the field of Spiritualism was awarded to Jonas Masetti from Brazil, recognizing his profound influence in spiritual practices and his contributions to interfaith dialogue and understanding.

In the field of Medicine, Sheikha Shaikha Ali Al-Jaber Al-Sabah from Kuwait was recognized with the Padma Shri for her groundbreaking work in healthcare, particularly in advancing medical practices and services in her country and beyond.

The Padma Awards are among India’s highest civilian honors, presented annually to individuals for their exceptional contributions across various fields. These prestigious awards are conferred by the President of India in three categories: Padma Vibhushan for exceptional and distinguished service, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of high order, and Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field.

The recipients are announced each year on Republic Day, with the official presentation ceremony taking place at Rashtrapati Bhawan, usually in March or April. The awards are a testament to the honorees’ dedication and significant impact in their respective domains.

This year, the Padma Awards 2025 list includes a total of 139 honorees, with seven individuals being conferred the Padma Vibhushan, 19 receiving the Padma Bhushan, and 113 awarded the Padma Shri. Among these distinguished awardees, 23 women have been recognized for their exceptional contributions across various sectors.

The list also features 10 individuals from the Foreigners, Non-Resident Indians (NRI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) categories. These recipients have made extraordinary contributions to India and the world, furthering the nation’s global stature in various domains.

Additionally, 13 of the awardees have been recognized posthumously, honoring their lasting impact and the legacy they left behind. The Padma Awards acknowledge not only the living legends but also those whose contributions continue to inspire long after their passing.

The recipients’ work spans a wide array of disciplines, including art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, and civil service, reflecting the diverse ways in which these individuals have contributed to the progress of society.
