Renjini RamachandranMore details have emerged in the case of the two-year-old girl who was thrown into a well and killed in Balaramapuram. Police investigations reveal that the child's mother, Sreethu, was subjected to inappropriate advances by her brother, Harikumar. His resentment over his desires and demands not being fulfilled ultimately led to the tragic murder of the child, according to statements.
Sreethu had protected Harikumar from many troubles in the past. However, he later developed inappropriate intentions toward his own sister. Sreethu tried to avoid provoking him, but when he saw the child as an obstacle to his desires, he killed her. This is Harikumar’s confession. However, the police have not fully believed his statement. They also suspect the mother’s involvement. The investigation focusing on the mother will continue, the police have stated.
The initial reports stated that Devendu, who had gone to sleep at night with her father, mother, and sister, was missing. Around 8 a.m., the body of the two-year-old, the younger daughter of Sreethu and Sreejith, was found in a well. It was the fire force that retrieved the child’s body from the well. As inconsistencies emerged in the initial statements, the police strongly suspected murder and proceeded with the investigation. Subsequently, the child’s mother, father, grandmother Sreekala, and the mother’s brother, Harikumar, were taken into custody.
During the initial interrogation, Harikumar misled the police and challenged them to find the truth on their own. However, when the police gathered evidence, including WhatsApp chats between Sreethu and Harikumar, and confronted him during questioning, he finally confessed to the crime. Although Sreethu was questioned and later released, she still remains under suspicion.
Sreethu and her husband Sreejith had been living apart for a long time, with Sreejith only visiting home occasionally. The family was struggling with severe financial difficulties, which had led to conflicts within the household. They also have an eight-year-old daughter. The younger child was laid to rest at the mother's ancestral home. The police ensured the presence of the father, Sreejith, and the grandmother, Sreekala, at the funeral rituals.
