Pakistan Government Suspends Dependent Appointments After Death of Government Employees
Pakistan's government has suspended the policy that allowed family members of deceased government employees to receive jobs under the dependent appointment scheme. This decision was reported by Express Tribune.
The move follows an order issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan on October 18, 2024, which found the dependent appointment policy to be unconstitutional and discriminatory. In response to the Supreme Court ruling, the government has instructed all ministries to strictly adhere to new guidelines.
However, family members of deceased employees will still be eligible for benefits under the Prime Minister’s assistance package and other government assistance. The new decision will not apply to families of employees killed in terrorist attacks. Additionally, individuals who were granted jobs under the dependent scheme before the Supreme Court ruling will not be affected by the new measure.
