Indications Suggest That the National Capital May Have a Female Chief Minister

Delhi Likely to Have a Female Chief Minister Following BJP's Election Victory
Following the BJP's landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, indications suggest that the national capital may have a female chief minister. The BJP ended the decade-long rule of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) by securing 48 out of 70 seats. Discussions within the party regarding the chief ministerial post are currently underway.

Sources indicate that the next chief minister will be chosen from among the newly elected MLAs, with a female legislator emerging as a strong contender for the position. The new cabinet is expected to have significant representation of women and Dalits. Additionally, the BJP is considering appointing a deputy chief minister from an underrepresented background.

Reports suggest that caste equations are also being taken into account, and a Scheduled Caste (SC) MLA could be selected for the position. Among the 48 newly elected BJP MLAs, four belong to the SC category, and four are women. The women MLAs in contention for the top post include Neelam Pehalwan, Rekha Gupta, Poonam Sharma, and Shikha Roy. One of them is likely to lead the national capital, according to sources.
