Prominent Indian American Physician Dr. Sampath Shivangi Passes Away (PPM)

Indian American physician Dr. Sampath Shivangi, known for his philanthropic work, has passed away. Shivangi, was born on Oct 27th, 1940 who turned 84 on Monday, died on Feb 10th, 2.15pm of a  pulmonary hypertension  

Born in Athani, Karnataka, he was a prominent voice in American healthcare and politics. He earned his medical degree from Manipal Kasturba Medical College and completed his MD and DGO from Hubli Medical College.

Dr. Shivangi moved to the U.S. in 1976 and quickly became a beloved figure in the Indian American community. He served as an advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Health from 2005 to 2008, focusing on health programs for vulnerable populations.

He was president of the Indian American Forum for Political Education and played a key role in strengthening India-U.S. relations.

In 2016, Dr. Shivangi received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award. In 2008, he was honored with the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. In 2017, he was named the Indian American Republican Committee's Person of the Year.

A lasting testament to his philanthropy is the Dr. Sampath Kumar S. Shivangi Cancer Hospital, inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu in his hometown of Karnataka in December 2024.
